We’ve all seen Planet of the Apes, and if we went to high school, we probably read George Orwell’s Animal Farm. For that matter, is there anyone who hasn’t seen a cartoon about animals in which all of the animals are basically just people in animal bodies?

But what if real animals — even our own beloved household pets — decided that the time was right to start acting like humans? These 15 photos will give you a pretty good idea of what that would look like in real life.

We tried our best to pick photos in which the animals appear to be acting like people purely on their own. Those are the best human-animal shots. There are few things more hilarious and cute than an animal that actually seems like it’s trying to do the things that people do. Maybe because it reminds us of how ridiculous we humans can be.

Some of these photos, admittedly, appear staged — or at least, they’re stunts carried out by trained animals. Still pretty great, but not as funny as when animals try to act like humans on their own.
