Ubisoft announces an online pass system of their own: ‘Uplay Passport’

Reports started coming in yesterday that Ubisoft was set to introduce an online passport system of their own, starting with Driver: San Francisco. Ubisoft confirmed the reports this morning by officially announcing “Uplay Passport”.

Just like all of the online passes utilized by an ever-growing list of publishers, consumers who pick up a used copy of Ubisoft’s titles will need to pick up a Uplay Passport in order to access online functionality. New copies will, of course, come packaged in with one.

The Uplay Passport will also be required to take advantage of Uplay’s rewards and unlockables.

If you insist on picking up Ubisoft’s games used, you’ll have to cough up $9.99 on Xbox Live or PlayStation Network in order to pick up your Uplay Passport.

Earlier this month, Sony also jumped aboard the online pass train with the “Network Pass Program”, starting with Resistance 3.
