Sandra Bullock Tells Grad Students ‘Don’t Pick Your Nose In Public’

Sandra Bullock received a warm welcome when she took to the stage at the University of New Orleans’ Lakefront Arena to talk to the graduating class of Warren Easton Charter High School at their commencement ceremony on Monday.

The Gravity star has been a long time supporter of the school following its closure in 2005 as a result of Hurricane Katrina. It happens to be the oldest public high school in Louisiana, making it an even more worthy cause.

Sandra Bullock delivered a motivational speech. peppering it with plenty of jokes for full effect. She really connected with the students and seemed to succeed in motivating them, as well as having some of them in hysterics.

Speaking about her own graduation, many moons before, Bullock said: “I didn’t remember anything because I was so worried about the future. I wasn’t present.”

She went on to speak about what advice she would give herself if she could go back in time:

I wished someone had said to me what I’ve been spending the last four years, telling a little boy, who I love more than anything, who happens to be my son. So I thought, ‘Maybe I will share that with you guys, that what I tell a 4-year-old, is what I wish someone had told me before I stepped out into the world. The first thing is stop worrying so much. Stop being scared of the unknown, because anything I worried about didn’t happen. Other stuff happened. The unknown we can’t do anything about.

Sandra Bullock went on to deliver some more good advice to the attentive grads showing how she has matured and become wise in her life:

Raise the bar higher. It is noisy out there and for some reason, people want to see you fail. That’s not your problem, that is their problem. I only remember the moments where I tried beyond what I thought I could do and I do not remember the failures because I didn’t. Nothing’s a failure, it’s just not supposed to work out that way because something better is supposed to come along.

On top of the serious, more heavy stuff there was also some more lighthearted advice imparted from Bullock to the students including eating “something green every day with every meal” and “do not pick your nose in public.”

All-in-all, Sandra Bullock’s speech at the university was a great one and seemed to really motivate at least some of the students present.
