Katey Sagal Reaches Perfect Pitch For Musical Sequel ‘Pitch Perfect 2’

Golden Globe winner Katey Sagal is best known for her portrayal as back-stabbing, tough-as-nails, Gemma Teller Morrow from Sons of Anarchy. Most fans who think of Sagal picture her as Gemma: severe, leather-clad and jaded.

Katey Sagal’s known for several other TV projects other than Sons of Anarchy. Some people picture her as the purple-haired, one-eyed Leela from Futurama or the saucy red-headed wife of Al Bundy, Peggy, in Married With Children. Now, Sagal will be adding a prominent new film to her resume, Universal Pictures and Gold Circle Films’ Pitch Perfect 2.

In a tweet on May, 14, producer and director of Pitch Perfect 2 tweeted the news that Katey would be a part of the sequel to the 2012 film.

In response to the tweet, Katey Sagal added, “I’m a fan of this myself! xo.”

Filming for Pitch Perfect 2 is set to begin this month and to be released in May of 2015. The plot of the film has not yet been released, but it is being written by Kay Cannon, writer of the first one.

Rumor has it that Sagal will be playing the mother of another new cast member’s character. Hailee Steinfeld was first reported to be connected to the musical sequel at the end of April by Variety.

Whether or not Katey’s part will involve any singing is still unknown, though it’s possible. Sagal is not only known for her acting abilities, she’s also an accomplished musician. In fact, that’s where her career began.

Katey Sagal was originally a back-up singer for Bob Dylan. She went on to be a member of “The Group With No Name” then “The Harlettes,” Bette Midler’s back-up group. There were many other stops along the way, but she released her first solo album, “Well…”, in 2004. She is currently touring to promote her most recent album, “Covered.”

Sagal has also loaned musical talent to the soundtracks for Sons of Anarchy, Futurama, and Married With Children.

Katey’s a busy woman. Pitch Perfect 2 is not her only upcoming project. She’s been cast in a new comedy series for NBC, “A to Z,” that follows a couple from the beginning of their relationship to the break up. She’s also going to be on the next season of Sons of Anarchy.

It’s rumored that Katey Sagal is also being considered for the lead in a new Kurt Sutter TV show called “Diva. Clown. Killer.” There is no current release date for that pilot.
