After dropping the first two games, the Anaheim Ducks showed everyone that their top seeding in the Pacific Division isn’t a fluke, dropping the LA Kings 3-2 in regulation. The game wasn’t as close as the final score. The Ducks played 60 minutes of solid hockey and the Kings, frankly, looked sluggish. The Ducks hope to take another game on the road tonight to even the series up. Currently, LA holds a 2-1 lead in the Kings vs Ducks series.
It won’t be easy. At the time of this writing, the Ducks are expected to be playing without significant role players Matt Beleskey and Matthieu Perrault. Backup net minder Frederik Andersen is also expected to be out.
An AP report quotes Ducks’ defenseman Ben Lovejoy, who doesn’t appear overly worried about the loss of the wounded Ducks:
“We have three guys on our team that are probably irreplaceable. Other than that, we have a lot of guys that can step in and contribute.”
In all likelihood, Lovejoy is referring to Teemu Selanne, Corey Perry, and Ryan Getzlaf when he speaks of irreplaceable Ducks. For his part, Getzlaf also expresses confidence in his team’s depth:
“Throughout the year, we’ve just had that depth in scoring. Years past, there was always a drop-off after the top line. Now, we can get goals and defense from everywhere.”
On the other side of the ice, expect the LA Kings to come out with renewed energy in game 4 of the Battle of California. The Kings realize they’re facing a serious opponent and will be looking to ice the Ducks vs. Kings series before the Ducks waddle their way back into it.
According to a Yahoo! Sports report, LA center iceman Jarret Stoll had this to say about the Kings’ performance against the Ducks after game 3:
“Anytime you are down in a series, you are going to come in desperate, and we had to match that desperation. I don’t think we did that. We didn’t have it tonight. We weren’t good enough in a lot of areas.”
