Michael Douglas Says He And Catherine Zeta-Jones Are ‘Doing Great’

Just when we thought they were over for good Catherine Zeta-Jones and Michael Douglas seem to be better than ever. The couple who announced that they were taking a break from each other back in August of 2013, have apparently realized that their marriage is worth saving.

Despite various health issues, including Douglas’ cancer battle and Zeta-Jones’ ongoing battle with bipolar II, the couple’s relationship seems to be on the right path again. According to Douglas, it’s all about putting effort in the relationship.

Douglas told CBS’ Gayle King:

“Sometimes we spend more efforts with people that are strangers in terms of making an impression than the person that’s closest to us. And you just gotta remember not to take for granted that person that’s closest to you.”

It looks like Michael Douglas has found a way to keep his marriage on track. Just last weekend the pair had a ton of fun celebrating their son Dylan’s bar mitzvah. Although it was fun, Douglas told a pretty hilarious story to Page Six about the event being a little too much, as producer Jerry Bruckheimer injured his groin during the party.

“I’m hurting. I got carried away at my son’s bar mitzvah this weekend. You know they put you up in the chairs over the top, I think something happened there.”

Previously to the hopping party, Michael Douglas and Catherine Zeta-Jones have started to make red carpet appearances together again, which was quite the change from the couple walking solo months after news of their split came out.

Although the actor admitted that the couple is “very close and everything is going great,”during the interview Douglas opened up about what he learned throughout his separation. One very important lesson:

“You don’t take love for granted.”

The couple met at the Deauville Film Festival in France in 1998 after they were introduced by Danny DeVito. Zeta-Jones has said that when she met Douglas he used a pick up line on her and said, “I’d like to father your children.” After a whirlwind romance the two were married in December of 1999 in New York City just a few weeks after Michael Douglas’ divorce was finalized.

The couple have been married for over thirteen years and share two children together. In addition to Dylan, the pair also has a daughter Carys who is 11.

In the last few years Douglas admitted that he isn’t as driven as he was in the past, but that doesn’t mean he’s not keeping busy. Douglas will star alongside Diane Keaton in a new film called And So It Goes.
