Mariska Hargitay: Mother Photos From Instagram Match The ‘Law And Order: SVU’ Star

Mariska Hargitay’s mother, Jayne Mansfield, is almost ever present in the world of the Law And Order: SVU star. Even though Mariska’s mother died when she was very young, the accident left a mark on her soul.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, while Mariska does not have many memories of her mother, she’s making sure her own daughter has plenty of good ones to share. For her daughter’s birthday party Mariska transformed herself into a real-life princess. For those wanting to know what the actress is up to professionally, Mariska Hargitay’s Law And Order future is said to be uncertain although it was recently announced the show was being renewed.

Hargitay has been regularly posting old pictures of her mother from her childhood on her Instagram account for quite a while now. In fact, she celebrated Cinco de Mayo by posting a old snapshot of her mother posing in a sombrero with two small dogs wearing matching hats.

But it is the latest photo of her mother that has garnered all the attention. It shows two photos of Hargitay and her mother where the pictures are split down the middle. If you take just one look at the photo it’s obvious she’s almost a match for her mother in almost all her major facial features.

The reason Mariska has been remembering her mother so often these days is because of an accident she suffered on the set of Law And Order. The injury caused a tear in her lungs and eventually she ended up in the hospital because her lung had collapsed. The lung injury required multiple surgeries to repair and was probably her closest brush with death in real life.

34-year-old Jayne Mansfield died in a car accident while 3-year-old Mariska was asleep in the back seat of the car. While she doesn’t remember the accident at all, it left mental scars that resurfaced when she faced her own mortality:

“Losing my mother at such an early age is the scar of my soul. But I feel like it ultimately made me into the person I am today. I understand the journey of life. I had to go through what I did to be here.”
