Granddaughter Slaps Down Cowardly Realtor Who Harassed Grandparents With Nasty Note

Selling homes valued at a million dollars can never be an easy assignment, but one real estate agent in Ocean City, New Jersey, recently became so frustrated and his or her inability to move the pricey properties that the agent picked an unlikely target to blame.

The realtor sent an anonymous letter, so there’s no way to know whether it was man or a woman — or for that matter if it was even a legitimate real estate agent — but the real issue is who the unnamed person picked as a target for this venting session.

The handwritten letter, pictured below, arrived with no signature or return address or identifying marks at all, at the home of retired grandparents Bill and Barbara Doughten, who have resided in the same Ocean City house for decades.

Now, however, it seems they are annoying an anonymous realtor trying to sell “million dollar homes.” The reason? Because Bill has a bad leg, he parks his car as close to the house as possible. That means the car is parked on the lawn.

Bear in mind that he parks the car neatly, and the vehicle itself is in good condition. We’re not talking cinder blocks here. The photo above shows exactly how he parks.

His parking habits elicited the following response from the angry, nameless realtor.

“I’m trying to sell million dollar homes in the neighborhood. I drive my clients around and they see your car parked sideways on the front lawn! You have a driveway – use it!”

Bill and Barbara are left wondering why the real estate agent didn’t simply talk to them in person.

“Why would you send a letter anonymously?” Bill asked. “That shows the character.”

But if the anonymous real estate agent thought he — or she — was angry, well, their granddaughter, Stephanie Powley, was even angrier. She posted the letter on her Facebook page, giving the anonymous correspondent a piece of her mind.

“I have to say, that I have seen sales people do some pretty scum bag things in my life, but this may take the cake,” she wrote. “Did you take a moment to wonder why my grandfather parks in that lot? Did it cross your mind that he may do it to be closer to his front door? Did you even take ONE second to consider your inconsiderate, ignorant actions before you scribbled your frustration on that piece of printer paper? I’m going to assume, not. Since you mailed it, with no return address — like only a true coward would.”

Jeff Quintin, a local realtor, said the letter is a poor reflection on his profession.

“The letter itself is a little disturbing,” Quintin told a TV news station. “I think the realtor who wrote that is probably regretting that he did. I think it’s a very negative vibe for us.”

In her counter-attack on the anonymous realtor, the Doughten’s granddaughter delivered the coup de grace.

“My grandparents have lived in Ocean City for longer than I’m sure you’ve been alive — and then some. They are loved and treated with respect by all of their surrounding neighbors — who all know why they park the way they park,” she wrote to the angry realtor. “I think it’s safe to assume that your sales aren’t low due to where people park. I’m betting the fact that you’re not doing such a great job selling homes is because you’re a pretentious douche bag.”

Barbara Doughten said she didn’t know of any million dollar homes in their neighborhood, and they planned to keep right on parking in the same place.
