[Breaking] Dover Air Force Base On Lockdown Due To Possible Active Shooter

According to several news sources, Dover Air Force Base in Dover, Delaware is currently on lockdown, after a suspicious person was spotted — and some reports suggest an active shooter may be on the premises.

All personnel at Dover Air Force Base are being asked to shelter in place as a precautionary measure following the report of a suspicious person, and the claim regarding a potential gunman has not been yet confirmed or denied.

A local news source reported that little information about the report has been confirmed:

“The lockdown was put in place around 11 a.m., after someone reported a suspicious individual outside a building, according to a base spokesman.”

Col. Randy Huiss, 436th Airlift Wing vice wing commander, commented on the Dover Air Force Base lockdown, explaining:

“The safety of our people is our top priority. We take this report very seriously and are taking the necessary precautions to investigate this matter.”

It appears that one unlucky school had been on a field trip at Dover Air Force Base when the incident began to unfold, these Facebook posts seem to suggest:

The teacher goes on to say that an active shooter prompted the Dover Air Force Base lockdown:

Valenti commented on her second post regarding the report of an active shooter at Dover Air Force Base, adding:

“… it’s on WBOC. They know the whereabouts of the ‘suspicious person’ who stormed the front gates. Base still on active lock-down.”

However, conflicting reports were cited in coverage of the ongoing lockdown:

A spokesman commenting on the lockdown at Dover Air Force Base has denied the initial reports of an active shooter in response to the reports circulating on social media sites.

USA Today has picked up the report, and quotes Airman First Class William R. Johnson, a base spokesman.

Johnson specifically addressed the claim that an active shooter led to the lockdown, commenting:

“At this time we have no information that would lead us to believe that there is an active shooter on the base.”

As of 1:33 PM local time, Dover Air Force Base remains on lockdown, and a school on the premises is currently observing the same precautions. As the lockdown remains in effect, classes continue, but students are not permitted in hallways.
