Zayn Malik Sells His Very First Guitar For Children’s Charity

Zayn Malik will do just about anything to help out those in need.

Although the Wu-Tang Clan famously proclaimed that they were for the children, it’s safe to say that the One Direction singer has stolen that title away from the iconic rap group. Malik recently donated one of his childhood possessions for a charity auction organized by Kean’s Children’s Fund.

According to the organization’s Facebook page, the charity has raised over £250,000 to “help refurbish areas of the children’s cancer, leukemia and pediatric ward” in Dunde, Scotland. In addition to getting televisions for every room, the group also added washing facilities for parents and a few play areas. In other words, all the money is going to a very good cause.

Sugarscape reports that charity’s founder Charles Kean was more than a little surprised when he learned that Zayn Malik was willing to hand over his very first guitar for the auction.

“The boys from One Direction really do support the charity but it’s really Zayn and his mum Tricia that are always keen to lend a hand,” he explained.

Kean added, “I got a call from [Zayn Malik] on (the) Sunday before the boys left for America and Tricia posted the guitar this week. I hope we’ll get around £20,000. But the band have some really dedicated fans, so who knows?”

According to the Evening Telegraph, the singer even scribbled something special on the guitar. “Lots of love Zayn, this was my first guitar,” he wrote. The person who decides to cough up a significant chunk of change for the instrument will essentially walk away with a unique piece of One Direction history.

Kean believes that Zayn Malik’s guitar will generate enough cash to help buy iPads for Ninewells Hospital’s young patients. Although the instrument obviously means a lot to the singer, he’s apparently more interested in helping out the children than holding onto something from his childhood.

“He admitted the guitar meant a lot to him, but he wanted to sell it for our benefit. It’s very good of him to do that. They’ve got about 18 million followers from all around the world, so who knows what we’ll get for it as they even have fans in places like China and Japan who are just obsessed with them,” the charity founder explained.

He continued, “Zayn reckons we will get about £15,000 to £20,000 for the guitar, which would just be utterly incredible.”
