A 23-year-old woman in India took a particularly gruesome and extreme form on revenge on her father who, she told police, had repeatedly raped her over the three-year period since the death of her mother. Kulvinder Kaur was arrested last week and reportedly confessed to murdering her 56-year-old father, taxi driver Daljeet Singh, on the night of April 29, along with two male accomplices.
Singh’s battered and mutilated body was found on April 30 by the side of a road miles away from the New Delhi, India, home he shared with the daughter who brutally killed him. It took police two days to figure out who he was.
When they did, they visited Kulvinder Kaur at home. She said that her father had taken passengers to Haridwar on April 30 and never returned. But when the police checked with her father’s employer, an India travel agency, they learned that her story did not pan out.
After a lengthy interrogation, she confessed to the gruesome killing.
Two male friends, 22-year-old tattoo artist Prince Sandhu and garment sales clerk Ashok Sharma, 23, were also arrested.
Kulvinder has two older sisters who are married and live separately. According to the story she told police, about a week before the murder, she went to one of her sisters and revealed the sexual abuse she was suffering at the hands of their father. She said the repeated rapes started shortly after the death of their mother.
But her older sister was unsympathetic and refused to help Kulvinder. At that point, the 23-year-old made up her mind to murder her father, who had also forced her to drop of out school earlier when he refused to pay for her education.
He initially also refused to let his daughter find a job, but at age 20, shortly before her death, Kulvinder’s mother intervened and the young woman was allowed to seek work.
It was at her workplace that she met Sharma. The two fell in love and she sought her father’s permission to marry her new boyfriend, according to the woman’s confession. But instead of allowing his daughter to marry and start her own life, he kept her at home and raped her.
On the night of April 29, Kulvider let Sharma and Sandhu into the house in the India capital. The two men assaulted Singh in his sleep, beating him savagely with a cricket wicket and strangling him with cable wire. To make 100 percent sure that he was dead, they then used a shard of broken glass to slice open the man’s chest and rip the pacemaker from his heart.
The killing is being called one of the most grisly murders in recent memory to take place in New Delhi, a sprawling metropolis in the north of India.
