Kinney The Dog Comes Running When Its Owner Does A Bad Beatles Impression

Meet Kinney, a Corgi dog with a bad case of Beatlemania.

Well, it’s not exactly Beatlemania, because that would imply that this dog actually likes The Beatles. What actually drives this dog crazy is when his human companion speaks in an impression of a Beatles-style Liverpool accent.

With all due respect to the human speaking in this video, we’ve heard better Beatles impressions. But that’s not what’s important here. What really matters is that Kinney only wants to respond when his human speaks in that particular intonation. The cute little dog doesn’t seem to be judging the accuracy of the impression.

Just to make his point, the owner also speaks in his normal, American voice, and in a faux Indian accent. But Kinney just seems apathetic at the former and a little creeped out by the latter.

This video has been on YouTube for a while. It was posted in July of 2008, actually, and has racked up more than a million views over that period. But for whatever reason, Kinney the Beatle-loving Corgi resurfaced on the internet this week and the video has gone viral once again.

As to why Kinney would have such a strong, and exclusive, reaction to a bad Beatles impression, well, that’s difficult to say. Recent research has shown that dogs understand human language much better than previously believed and may even be able to grasp the concepts expressed by comparative words such as “larger” and “different.”

Other research has suggested that animals themselves may communicate in their own regional accents, and that they have a hard time understanding human commands in unfamiliar accents. Maybe something like that is going on here with Kinney.

Or maybe Kinney just like The Beatles.
