Met Gala Fashion: The Best And Worst Dressed

The Met Gala, otherwise known as the Costume Institute Gala or the Met Ball, is an internationally recognized annual fundraiser for the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The event attracts A-list celebrities from music, TV, film, and fashion every year. The 2014 Met Gala was held last night, and Hollywood’s elite showed up in full force, sporting their finest attire. Here is a look at those who impressed and those who depressed with their fashion choices.

Top 5 Best Fashions of the Met Gala:

1. Queen Bey in Givenchy

Beyonce stunned in a floor length Givenchy ensemble with a plunging neckline and a retro styled veil. Her makeup and hair was perfectly on point as she strutted her stuff on the red carpet accompanied by her husband, music mogul Jay-Z, who, by the way, looked rather dapper in his white Givenchy tux.

2. Victoria Beckham in Victoria Beckham

The fashion icon decided to step out in a cream colored sleeveless floor length gown by her own design. The minimalist dress was just elegant enough to put her in the running as one of the best dressed dames of the event.

3. Sarah Jessica Parker in Oscar de la Renta

SJP impressed with her over-the-top black and white gown fit for a princess. Carrie Bradshaw would be too proud!

4. Charlize Theron in Dior

Mixing the ultra-sultry dress with a fitted tuxedo jacket, Charlize Theron lit up the red carpet in a striking black and white floor length Dior dress. Fashionable enough to stop traffic!

5. Rihanna in Stella McCartney

Perhaps one of the most talked about dresses of the Met Gala is the bright white, two-piece, midriff baring, backless gown that Rihanna sported to celebrate her arrival at the Met Ball. The songstress pulled the piece off immaculately and elegantly in true Ri-Ri style.

Other notables: Reese Witherspoon in Stella McCartney, Blake Lively in Gucci, and Liu Wen wearing Zac Posen.

The 5 Fashion Misses of the Met Gala:

1. Kate Upton in Dolce & Gabbana

Perhaps Kate took the ‘costume’ idea a little too far with her D & G floor length ruffle and lace gown. She further raised eyebrows with her choice of jewelry, a set of coral earrings and matching necklace which really threw the whole ensemble off.

2. Katie Holmes in Marchesa

While the dress was stunning, the fit on Katie Holmes was all off. Plus, the mustard yellow off-the-shoulder gown was just a little too reminiscent of Belle from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

3. Kristen Stewart in Chanel Couture

Kristen Stewart showed up to the fashion forward event looking a little worse-for-wear in her Chanel gown, heavy eyeliner, and untouched roots. Her look seemed a bit more MTV music awards than black tie affair.

4. Maggie Gyllenhaal in Valentino

While the cut on the gown was flattering, the material left a lot to be desired. Gyllenhaal looked more like she just stepped off the set off That 70s Show than about to attend a glamorous fundraising event.

5. Elizabeth Olsen in Miu Miu

The powder blue mini-dress that Olsen showed up in gave the allusion of a figure skater. To add insult to injury, Olsen also wore a pair of yellow open-toed platform shoes which really didn’t make much sense with the dress.

Other Met Gala fashion flops: Rita Ora in Donna Kaan, Naomi Watts in Givenchy Couture, and Zoe Saldana in Michael Kors.

And there you have it, the Met Gala fashions that impressed and depressed. What do you think? Who wore it best? Who left much to be desired?
