Minnesota Wild coach Mike Yeo had this to say after game 2 of the Blackhawks vs. Wild series, according to a Yahoo! Sports report:
“We weren’t that far off. Even though, again, I know we can play better, we weren’t that far off. That game was hanging for us.”
One of the stars of game 2, Chicago’s Bryan Bickell – who had a goal and two assists in game 2 despite only logging 15 points during the entire regular season – had this to say about how the Wild vs Blackhawks series is going so far:
“There were bits of that third (period of game 2) where it wasn’t looking good, but we just stuck with itLeave it to our D and (Chicago goalie) Crawford to keep the puck out of the net. We need to be smarter defensively in positioning, but we stuck with it and got over the hump. It’s that time of year. I enjoy it. This is a crucial time for this team. We need for me and this team to step up.”
As for their part, the Wild are down 0-2, but that isn’t unfamiliar territory for them. They also trailed the Colorado Avs 0-2 before the series moved to Minnesota. The Wild went on to win all of their home games and the decisive game 7 in Colorado. Whether they can pull that off against a much more experienced team that’s defending their Stanley Cup championship remains to be seen. Wild right winger Charlie Coyle had this to say about headed home for the next two games of the Wild vs Blackhawks series:
“We definitely haven’t shown what we’re capable of. We haven’t been on our game. We haven’t had that grittiness that we brought last series. I think being at home right now is good for us and usually brings out the best in us, being here and playing here.”
