Nicki Minaj has joined the line up for the Roots’ annual 4th of July Jam. The event, which is held in Philadelphia each year, is a free concert event that attracts thousands of music fans.
In a news conference on Monday, the mayor of Philadelphia Michael Nutter announced the all-star lineup which includes Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Hudson, Ariana Grande, and Aloe Blacc.
The Root will play the role of the house band. The jam is set to air on VH1, Palladia, and VH1.com.
Recently Nicki is making headlines with the announcement of the release of her new single titles Yasss Bish!! on which she collaborates with Soulja Boy. The song is said to be a direct shot at Donald Sterling and his controversial remarks that he made recently about ethnic members of the Clippers NBA basketball team. The single is set for release in a few weeks.
Nicki’s album The Pink Print is set to drop some time later in the year and it seems that no one is safe from her smack talking. Reportedly, Nicki calls out Oprah and Beyonce in tracks on the album. Minaj remains elusive about the official release date of the album, saying that ‘You’ll never know when it’s coming until it’s come.’
On her new album, Nicki says she is returning to her hip hop roots and laying to rest the conventional pop sound that has been so indicative on her last two albums, ‘The tracks on Pink Print are back to my hip-hop roots. And I don’t think it’s something that I’m necessarily trying to do. As soon as I started working on my new album, that’s just the songs that I’ve been writing,’ says Minaj about her latest musical offering.
Meanwhile, she has been auditioning for film roles, with her most latest appearance being in the recently released The Other Woman which also stars Cameron Diaz. In the movie, Minaj plays assistant to Cameron Diaz’character, who makes the shocking discovery that her boyfriend is a married philanderer who is having several affairs.
It seems that Minaj has been bitten by the acting bug, saying that It gave me an idea as to what the world would be like being on a set and being on a trailer for hours. And now that I know it’s something I can do, I think I want to expand a role eventually. I am going on auditions, and I’m trying to find the right role with the right director and the right writers. I want to be part of something from the beginning stage this time, and I want the role to be custom-made for me.’
But when it comes to her number one love, it will always be music. She say that she wants to work in acting around creating music.
