WWE Extreme Rules 2014 Results: Evolution Perishes To The Shield

Evolution’s Triple H told The Shield that they could either evolve or perish. The Shield was in between a rock and a hard place. If they win, what more could The Authority do to them? If they lost, what would become of them? The only thing for sure was that The Shield had to take out their personal cancer in Evolution…but could they?

31 World Championships between the trio of Randy Orton, Triple H, an Batista make them difficult to be beaten alone. What happens when you pair them all up together in Evolution yet again? They are far more deadly these days than they were back then. They are better. They are good at going into things alone, so clearly if they team up again, one would imagine that they could do anything they wanted. Which meant that, in the words of Batista, we’d have to “deal with it”.

We also have The Shield though. Three men who were just as good alone as the Evolution members. They each bring something special. You have “The Architect” Seth Rollins who can do anything high risk needed to get the win. He’ll take the crazy jump, he’ll take the horrific move…as long as it accomplishes something.

Then you have Dean Ambrose, known as “The Lunatic Fringe”. Literally, Ambrose is crazy. He will attack and attack. He doesn’t get hurt, doesn’t get tired, and he never stops. Even when he is hurt, he will keep attacking and hit you with his nose if he thought it would do some damage. He will get right in the middle of a fight even when the odds are clearly against him. He will take crazy chances like Rollins, but no one gets as ruthless to get the win as Ambrose.

Of course, no team is complete without a powerhouse. Known as “The Muscle” behind The Shield, Reigns will hurt you. Don’t think he is some stiff big man however, he will surprise you with his athletic ability. His superman punch and spear will ignite the crowd and bring new life into the team. When he is on, there is almost no stopping The Shield.

The match-up is even in most minds. However, The Shield seemed like the most likely choice to win. As I stated in my preview for the match, The Shield was favored because not only was Batista set to leave soon, but the WWE also wants to extend The Shield faction. You cannot force a loss on them and keep them looking like a power group.

Evolution came into Extreme Rules and took over early on however. Then, it spilled to the outside. Triple H and Randy Orton fought with Seth Rollins and Dean Ambrose toward the end while Batista and Reigns fought inside the ring.

Ambrose in his crazy fashion fell down a set of stairs yet still managed to get up and fight Orton and Triple H. Rollins got free and found his way to a high place. Then jumped around 20 feet to topple on everyone. This left the door open for a potential one on one match between Reigns and Batista.

Reigns managed get out of both an RKO and Pedigree earlier on in the match, so clearly he was already dazed before this. All Batista had to do was capitalize on this and get a Batista Bomb on Reigns. Sadly, Batista could never get this done. You had one…job, Batista.

Reigns found a way to get his patented spear in and got the win. Evolution may have evolved at one point, but they have not yet evolved enough to beat The Shield. WWE fans were into the entire match as it was indeed a war. No one saw some things coming. We all knew that, just with any Shield match, things get really interesting toward the end. The trio is very fun to watch.

It obviously did get crazy, and it proved why The Shield will be known as one of the best factions in WWE and wrestling history. The match was extreme, sure. However, The Shield knew going in that they had to go to a different place when taking on Evolution. They didn’t have to evolve. They simply were already evolved. Now comes the question, how can The Authority stop what they simply cannot beat?
