WWE Extreme Rules 2014: Did John Cena Contain Bray Wyatt’s Message Or Is The Cenation Over?

At WWE Extreme Rules 2014, John Cena did all in his power to prevent Bray Wyatt’s message from spreading across the WWE Universe. His plan: lure Bray Wyatt into a steel cage using himself as bait, then escaping while leaving Wyatt trapped inside. A las, Cena’s plan would not come to fruition as Bray Wyatt escaped the steel cage, in style and grace actually.

This feud has been festering for most of the year, and actually began back at the 2014 Royal Rumble. During the WWE pay-per-view’s main event, John Cena versus Randy Orton for a unification of championships, Bray Wyatt and the family interfered and took out John Cena. Their mugging was enough for Orton to secure a victory thus becoming the first WWE World Heavyweight champion. Since then, Bray would antagonize John in hopes of bringing out the “monster” deep within the “Cenation Leader”.

With numerous battles, on multiple WWE venues and shows, this war seems to have no end in sight. At WWE Extreme Rules, Bray Wyatt got out on top. In actuality, he even “won” at his first pay-per-view battle against Cena simply because the WWE Universe was in the majority of supporting him, even though Cena was able to keep his “Legacy” intact. The difference between Wrestlemania XXX and WWE Extreme Rules is one simple thing: Bray Wyatt won.

The hulking structure, known as a steel cage, was lowered to keep John Cena and Bray Wyatt inside, and the rest of the Wyatt Family out. Once the bell rang for the match to begin, Bray scored the first attack as his predictable brutish nature started things off. Fueled by the WWE Universe, as they swayed their arms in the air to and fro while singing He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands, Wyatt gave Cena more than he could handle.

Despite the WWE Universe turning on him, John, like in numerous times during his career, found the will to power out of the situation. However, it was now evidently clear that despite the one-on-one conditions of the match, Bray Wyatt was at a clear advantage. Every attempt to escape the cage was deflected by Luke Harper and Eric Rowan in some form. Without the approval of the WWE Universe, Cena was alone in finding another way to escape.

Eventually, Cena figured out a way to escape the cage: trap both Luke Harper and Eric Rowan into the cage, take out all three members of the Wyatt Family, than escape. Cena’s plan was going his way as he incapacitated all three members of the Wyatt Family. The Cenation leader, with a big smile on his face, headed for the steel cage door to make his exit…and that is when the lights went out followed by an eerie voice singing He’s Got The Whole World In His Hands. When the lights went back on, Cena would be introduced to his greatest fear.

A boy, who we learn later to be known as “Little Johnny”, was in front of John Cena. He represented Bray Wyatt’s message reaching the hearts of children. He also represented all the fans, all of the Cenation, turning on the Cenation Leader to Follow the Buzzards…right into Bray Wyatt’s arms.

The haunting scenario shocked Cena as he backed away from “Little Johnny”, right into Bray Wyatt’s Sister Abigail. With Cena prone on the ring floor, Harper and Rowan now standing behind their leader, and “Little Johnny” waiting outside, Bray made his exit to gain victory. Not only was it just any victory, it was a walk of triumph. Bray walked with the demeanor of a king heralded by his two knights. The WWE Universe cheered in Bray’s triumph. And “Little Johnny” was happy to be with “The Eater of Worlds”.

In less than four months, Bray Wyatt is accomplishing what nobody else has done. He is destroying John Cena. He is destroying Cena’s legacy one bit at a time. And the most dangerous part about it, is he doesn’t even have to win the battle, to win over the WWE Universe. If Cena truly wants to escape, he has to survive to the very end, until Bray leaves him be.
