Nicki Minaj Wasn’t Sure She Could Make The Transition Into Acting

Nicki Minaj wasn’t sure that heading into the world of motion pictures was the right idea.

Although audiences seem to love The Other Woman — the movie topped the box office in North America during its first week of release — Minaj wasn’t entirely entirely convinced that she should sign on for the project. Since she didn’t have as much control over the movie as she does her music videos, Nicki almost decided against tackling the role of Lydia.

During her recent chat with the Los Angeles Times, Nicki Minaj discussed her first proper foray into acting. While she previously appeared in one of the Ice Age sequels, this was the first time she appeared on-screen.

“I wanted to do a movie, but I wasn’t actively pursuing a role. This came out of nowhere. I didn’t even have an hour for myself, and I didn’t know if I was gonna be able to do it,” Minaj explained the publication.

The rapper added, “On a video. I have all the control over what’s happening. I know in advance how it’s gonna go. But on a movie, they’ll tell you you’re shooting at noon and you might not start until 5 pm. It’s a lot of waiting.”

Now that she’s had a taste of Hollywood success, Nicki Minaj is hoping more projects will start coming her way. In fact, she wouldn’t turn down a huge role in an upcoming superhero flick if someone thought she could handle the work.

“I am going on auditions, and I’m trying to find the right role with the right director and the right writers. I want to be part of something from the beginning stage this time, and I want the role to be custom-made for me,” Nicki told MTV News.

She continued, “I have such a versatile personality. Some days I feel like I wanna do a Will Ferrell comedy; some days I feel like I wanna do more like a ‘Set It Off’-type of movie with some other young black actresses and like creating a movement with that. And sometimes I think, maybe I could do ‘X-Men’ or something.”

Of course, Hollywood isn’t the only thing on Nicki Minaj’s mind these days. The rapper is also getting ready to release her next album The Pink Print, a collection of songs that will apparently take Minaj back to her “hip-hop roots.”
