Mega Millions Numbers Drawn For 8th Straight Time With No Jackpot Winner

The Mega Millions numbers picked on Friday night missed the mark, as far a jackpot winner goes, for the eighth straight drawing, sending the top prize in the twice-weekly nationwide lottery game edging ever closer to the nine-figure mark.

The jackpot for Tuesday’s Mega Millions game will be $92 million. The game has not seen a jackpot over $100 million since March 18 when two winners split a $400 million prize. If Tuesday’s numbers again come up empty, the Mega Millions jackpot will likely break that nine-figure barrier again.

In a sign that excitement over the Mega Millions jackpot may be building, ticket sales cracked 20 million, also for the first time since March 18. The last time a jackpot under $100 million attracted more than 20 million ticket sales was February 4, when the jackpot was posted at $94 million on its way to the March 18 $400 million bonanza, which was the seventh-largest U.S. lottery prize ever.

Friday’s Mega Millions game saw 20,892,452 tickets sold, an increase of approximately 2.5 million from the prior Tuesday.

Though no one won Friday’s announced jackpot of $81 million, one lucky Mega Millions player won the $1 million second prize, with a ticket that matched the first five numbers, but not the Mega Ball. That ticket was sold at a Citgo gas station in Nassau County, Long Island, New York.

The $92 million jackpot Tuesday, if a Mega Millions winner chooses to receive the full, posted amount, will be paid in 30 annual installments averaging $3,066,667 before taxes. Uncle Sam is expected to take a bite of about $766,667, leaving the winner with an annual net income of $2.3 million for the next three decades.

The chances of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are astronomically small — just one in 258,890,850. To put that in clearer terms, think of it this way. If you bought one Mega Millions ticket per second and played a different combination of numbers on each ticket, it would still take you eight years and 75 days to play every possible combination.

With that in mind, check your May 2 Mega Millions ticket against these numbers, drawn in Atlanta, Georgia, to see if you match any combination.
