Liam Payne ‘Devastated’ Following Split From Girlfriend Sophia Smith

Liam Payne and his girlfriend, Sophia Smith, have split. A source tells Us Weekly exclusively that the One Direction member is absolutely “devastated” following the break-up. Apparently the long distance relationship was too much for the couple, who have been dating for eight months. The singer — who was discovered by Simon Cowell on The X Factor UK— seemed to be in love with Smith, but his schedule is just too crazy to have a successful relationship right now.

A source shared the following with Us Weekly:

“He’s devastated that it’s over but it was for the best. They were spending too much time apart and it’s only going to get worse this year — the band going on a super long tour, her getting busier with university. Too much long distance. It was draining for the both of them and led to a lot of arguments.”

Liam Payne was the one to break things off according to the source, and even though he is having a really hard time with it, a second source said that it was the right thing to do:

“There was no way to maintain the relationship. He had to do it as they would never see each other and he didn’t think it was fair to her.”

According to HollyBaby, there is a chance that Liam and Sophia will get back together — especially because he is so upset over their split. Liam sent out a number of tweets that were clearly related to his heartbreak and it sounds like he is going to have a very hard time leaving this relationship in the dust. Perhaps right now isn’t the best time for Liam to be in a committed relationship but if he really loves Sophia Smith, he might find a way to make it work.

Directioners (as One Direction fans call themselves) have been sending messages to Liam on Twitter in hopes of cheering him up. As previously reported by Inquisitr.com, the hashtag #CheerUpLiam began trending on the social media site after Liam’s depressing posts.
