Teacher Shows Porn In Class, Two Students Get Suspended — Wait, How Did That Happen?

Students in a first period biology class at J.C. Harmon High School in Kansas City, Kansas, got a little more biology than they bargained for on a recent school day when their teacher accidentally showed a pornographic picture on the classroom projection screen.

But somehow, it was two students who ended up getting hit with suspensions after the embarrassing porn in class incident.

How could that happen?

First of all, the teacher — whose name has not been released — made the critical mistake of hooking his personal laptop computer up to the classroom digital projector. While there’s no law against looking at porn sites in the privacy of one’s own home, it’s generally not something one wants to share with the world — and definitely not with a classroom full of your high school students.

One ninth-grade girl was upset by the image and before it disappeared, she snapped a picture on her cell phone. According to Kansas City TV station KCTV which reported on the incident, the shot on her cell phone “shows the laptop and projector, and in the background, there’s an image of a naked woman in a compromising position from behind.”

Not knowing what to do, the teen girl shared the picture with her boyfriend, who shared it with another friend — who posted it on his own private Facebook page.

The result: The girl and her boyfriend were both slapped with two-day suspensions, ostensibly because the use of cell phones in class is prohibited by the school.

Now the parents of both teens are extremely angry at the school.

“I believe my son got in trouble because the school was trying to hide something,” said the male student’s mom, Karen Winkel.

“When she came home from school she was crying her eyes out, unable to speak about what had happened,” said the girl’s mother, Laura Lester. “It was very upsetting that this is happening when our kids are in school, when they are supposed to be learning.”

Asked the reason the school gave for suspending the students, Lester said, “For inappropriate use of electronics. I have no idea. I tried to run it through my mind and understand. She was on her own cell phone.”

The parents say they plan to talk to the school about appealing the suspensions to get them expunged from the honor students’ records.

The teacher with porn on his computer has been employed by Kansas City schools for 12 years. There was no word on what, if any, disciplinary action has been taken against the teacher.
