Fireworks Display Turns Deadly in Baltimore With Fatal Stabbing, Shooting

A 26-year-old man was stabbed to death and a 4-year-old boy was wounded by a stray bullet in separate incidents at a Baltimore fireworks display last night.

The Inner Harbor 4th of July celebration took a violent turn at around 10PM near a location of McCormick & Schmick’s near the Pier Six Pavilion. The victim was pronounced dead at Maryland Shock Trauma center at around midnight, and though he has been identified, his name has not been released “because he was from Alabama and notification of relatives was taking longer than normal,” said police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi.

The stabbing occurred after an altercation between the victim and “a group,” but the child appears to have been wounded by a stray bullet- perhaps one shot into the air. The child was with his parents at the celebration, also at around 10PM, when he was struck:

The small-caliber bullet passed through the boy’s leg, near the groin, but didn’t have much velocity, he said. No shell casing was found in the area, but it could have come from a revolver that does not leave a casing, he said.

Guglielmi says that police have not yet arrested anyone in connection with the murder, but that they may have a photograph and have made “damn good progress” in the case so far.
