Air Conditioning Thieves Target Texas Churches

A Houston, Texas church was forced to temporarily shut its doors this Sunday after thieves tore apart several of its air conditioning units.

Evangelist Temple Church of God in Christ Bishop Rufus Kyles said that sometime during the night on Friday, a group of burglars cut through fences and locks and tore apart nine AC units looking for expensive pieces that they could pawn off for quick cash.

“This is unthinkable,” lamented Bishop Kyles. “To think someone would destroy $50,000 worth of air conditioners to maybe get $1,500…to inconvenience an entire ministry for a small sum like that.”

Thankfully for Evangelist Temple, they were able to take refuge in a fellowship hall at nearby Cullen Baptist Church, where services went on as usual.

The thieves, however, didn’t limit their sights to just one church, as just down the road two other places of worship revealed more than a dozen units were stolen from their properties earlier in the week.

At Greater Mount Caramel Missionary Baptist Church, thieves made off with three entire air conditioning units and nearby Revolution Worship Center had another 9 AC units stolen, resulting in damages close to $100,000.
