Ryan Braun Hits Jean Segura In The Head With Bat, Moment Caught On Video

Ryan Braun was swinging his bat while warming up in the dugout during the Brewers game against the Cubs, when he hit Jean Segura in the head, hard.

So hard in fact that Segura had to be helped out of the dugout by trainers and was not able to play in the game at all.

The troubling video shows how Ryan Braun is standing on the first step to get into the dugout, doing his stretching as is ususal, swinging his bat and warming up his arms.

At precisely the wrong moment Segura walks behind Braun as he is getting ready to bat and that is when the bat hits him square in the head. All of this was caught on video.

Even though Segura did not suffer a major injury (those bats are very heavy), he had a deep enough cut that it required stitches, performed by a plastic surgeon.

There was obviously no intention on Braun’s part to hit his teammate, as he had no idea Segura was standing so close behind him and Jean probably didn’t realize he was in striking distance of Ryan’s bat.

Brewers manager, Ron Roenicke, said that Segura did not suffer a concussion or fracture and he is not expected to have to sit in the DL for any time.

Ryan Braun spoke with reporters following the scary incident:

“You never want to see something like that. It breaks your heart a little bit. Obviously, it’s never something done intentionally but whenever you’re involved in a situation like that it puts life in perspective… Thank God, from everything we’ve heard, he’s OK. It could have been a lot worse.”

Braun has been surrounded by negative press ever since being implicated in the alleged use of performance-enhancing drugs, following a confidential urine test that tested positive for high levels of testosterone. He was suspended by Major League Baseball for 65-games and all of the post-season for his involvement in the Biogenensis Clinic scandal.

At the height of the allegations surrounding the 30-year-old slugger, his demeanor came across as uncaring and overly confident, which didn’t sit well with many who saw it as arrogance.

Braun’s seemingly careless actions on Saturday, have many people scratching their heads and has earned him not-so-kind remarks on social media, as is apparent from this Twitter feed:

There is a clearly marked circle for batter to make his warm-up swings before coming to bat and for some unknown reason, Ryan Braun decided to start his routine in the dugout and that’s when he hit Jean Segura.

Both, Braun and Segura will miss Sunday’s game against the Chicago Cubs.
