Amal Alamuddin: George Clooney’s New Fiancee Is As Far From Hollywood As Possible

Amal Alamuddin would not seem like George Clooney’s type at first glance, but the 36-year-old lawyer apparently has what it takes to make the serial bachelor want to settle down.

Sources close to Clooney said that he popped the question to his girlfriend of six months this week, confirming speculation that began when Alamuddin was spotted with an engagement ring.

The couple is reportedly planning a quiet wedding, which will be Clooney’s second after a previous marriage with Talia Balsam.

“George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key but they also aren’t really trying to hide this, it doesn’t seem,” a source told People. “I think it’s like they want the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on being together forever.”

Many saw the relationship as new ground for Clooney, who seemed to have a propensity for dating actresses and models. While Amal Alamuddin herself has a big stature in the human rights world, she is far from the Hollywood types Clooney has been known to date in the past.

Some sources close to Clooney think that is what makes them such a good couple.

“He’s with someone who is a very accomplished attorney,” a source told People earlier this year. “She isn’t someone who is pursuing a career in acting or entertainment. She’s on his level.”

Alamuddin was born in Beirut, Lebanon, and studied law at Oxford University and the New York University School of Law. She is an accomplished lawyer specializing in international law and human rights, and gained fame in 2011 when she represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange as he fought extradition by Sweden.

Amal Alamuddin can give new finace George Clooney a run in the “eligible bachelor/bachelorette” department. Last year she was named London’s hottest female barrister by a Tumblr blog.
