Katie Holmes Warns People Not To Mess With Ohio Girls

Katie Holmes stars a schoolteacher-turned-vigilante in writer-director Karen Leigh Hopkins’s upcoming drama Miss Meadows. Although she doesn’t take things to the same extremes as her character, the actress said folks shouldn’t press their luck.

Holmes was on-hand at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival in New York City to promote the aforementioned drama. When asked if she could hold her own in a fight like her character in Miss Meadows, Katie revealed that she isn’t someone you’d want to meet in a dark alley.

“I don’t have a drawer full of weapons in my house if that’s what you’re asking, but I can be tough when I need to be. I’m an Ohio girl. Don’t underestimate us,” she told E! Online.

Katie Holmes told The Wrap that she believes a lot of people will relate to what Miss Meadows does when she’s not shaping the minds of children. Instead of letting people get away with crime, the schoolteacher decides to do something about it.

“I read the script about a year ago and got on the phone with [writer-director] Karen Leigh Hopkins. I thought it was a really quirky story and one that a lot of people could really connect to, along with this character,” Holmes explained to the website.

She continued, “She’s a schoolteacher by day, but she also believes in being this vigilante and hurting those people who hurt children and others in society. It’s a bit of a stretch to take on a character who does this, but she’s also funny and I thought the script had a lot of charm.”

In addition to Miss Meadows and The Giver, Katie Holmes has another project looming on the horizon. The Inquisitr previously reported that the Dawson’s Creek alum recently signed on to star in a pilot for the folks at ABC.

Inspired by the novel Les Liaisons dangereuses (aka Dangerous Liasons), the proposed television series tells the story of two mean-spirited individuals who plan to destroy a young woman’s life. Holmes will reportedly appear in the series alongside Dark City star Rufus Sewell. Beautiful Creatures writer Richard LaGravanese will serve as the show’s creative mastermind.

If that’s not enough to keep fans happy, then they’ll probably want to keep their eyes peeled for Katie Holmes in writer-director Paul Dalio’s drama Mania Days. Unfortunately, the movie doesn’t have a proper release date as of this writing.
