Watch Bruins vs Red Wings tonight starting from the puck drop at 8 P.M. Eastern Standard Time. Boston takes a 2-1 lead into the Red Wings vs Bruins series as the teams hit the ice at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit. Look for Detroit to bring their A game in an attempt to even the series up before heading back to Boston for game five.

So far in the series, the Red Wings have been unable to match the tough physical play of the Boston Bruins, though not for lack of trying. Game two featured one of the funniest – and the most lopsided – fights in NHL history with Zdeno Chara – the tallest player in NHL history – towering over and squaring off (and laughing through most of it) against the pesky but grossly overmatched Detroit defenseman Brendan Smith. According to a report in the Boston Herald, Bruins right winger – and Brendan’s brother – Reilly Smith had this to say about Brendan’s choice of sparring partners:

“(Chara) wouldn’t be the first guy I’d choose in the NHL to go against. He should probably think twice next time. That’s (brother Brendan’s safety) the least of my worries right now.”

For his part, Zdeno Chara, who seemed more amused than angered during the “fight,” didn’t seem inclined to rub Smith’s nose in it afterwards. Said Zdeno: “Nothing really, it’s just, that’s playoff hockey.”

If Detroit is going to climb back into contention in the Bruins vs Red Wings series, they’re going to have to find a way to put the puck on the net. The offensive push, propelled largely by call-ups from the Grand Rapids Griffins, that was a major part of their late season push to extend their playoff streak to 23 years(many experts believed this was the year the streak would end) has been largely nonexistent during this Red Wings vs Bruins series.

The Red Wings have scored two – count ’em, TWO – goals in the first three games. Granted, a lot of that has to do with the Bruins’ gritty defense and stellar net minding by Tuukka Rask. Still, you have to put the puck on the net to get it in the net. An AP report quotes Red Wings coach Mike Babcock saying it this way:

“He’s (Tuukka Rask) a world-class goalie, skates great. Looks great in warmups – that’s where he’s getting his most shots.”
