Demi Lovato Fans’ Death Threats Prompted Police Involvement, Says Kathy Griffin

Demi Lovato fans sent so many death threats to comedian Kathy Griffin that police decided to get involved with the situation.

For those who can’t remember what happened last month, Griffin drew the unrelenting ire of Demi Lovato fans after she slapped the singer with a “biggest celebrity douche” label. Since Demi’s loyal supporters strongly disagreed with that sentiment, they decided to launch an all-out war on the comedian. Death threats and several unsettling tweets ensued.

According to Us Weekly, all of those nasty comments from Lovato fans were so distressing that police felt the need to contact Kathy about the situation.

“[The police] actually contacted me because at that point it goes beyond just Twitter hate. It’s actual, like, legit… I have no problem with Demi Lovato — or Debbie, as I like to call her, as Siri calls her — but it doesn’t mean she’s out of the act if she does something crazy or wacky,” Kathy told Howard Stern during a recent chat.

She added, “There’s no death threats coming from me ever. So, whatever I say about a celebrity, ‘douchey’ is about as bad as it gets.”

What sort of things did Demi Lovato fans send to Kathy Griffin during last month’s exchange? One person wrote, “Don’t you ever talk s*** about Demi again or else us Lovatics will kill you in your self [sic]. Get cancer please slit your f***ing throat.”

Another angry individual wrote, “I will come to your house and rape you b****.”

Not surprisingly, Demi Lovato was a little horrified by the sort of things her legion of loyal fans were sending to Kathy Griffin as a result of the “celebrity douche” comment. Once things spiraled out of control, the “Neon Lights” singer asked her supporters to knock it off.

Lovato wrote:

“I love you guys so much but y’all gotta chill with sending hate towards other people. Regardless of what they say or do.. The cruel things some of you are saying can really, REALLY hurt people. It’s called cyber-bullying and somethings should NEVER be wished upon EVER. No matter WHAT. It makes me so sad to see how mean people can really be after all I’ve spoken out about anti-bullying. Be an example for other haters. I know my #Lovatics are better than that. I really appreciate you guys always having my back but this is going way too far.”

Are you surprised that police contacted Kathy Griffin after Demi Lovato fans assaulted her with tons of nasty messages on Twitter?
