Loose Steering Wheel Nut Leads To E-Z-GO Recall Of 30,000 Vehicles

E-Z-GO has issued a recall of 30,000 golf cars, shuttles, and off-road utility vehicles due to the possibility that the steering wheel nut may not be “tightened sufficiently,” according to a press release from PR Newswire. This runs the potential risk of drivers losing control of their vehicles and crashing.

Along with E-Z-GO, this recall also includes Cushman and Bad Boy Buggies. The affected vehicles are four-wheeled and have bench seats on the driver and passenger sides, and were sold at dealers nationwide from August 2012 through February 2013 with a price tag between $6,650 and $10,650.

E-Z-GO is aware of one incident that has been reported during this recall. The consumer reported an insufficiently tightened nut led to reduced steering control, resulting in the vehicle going over a curb, and the passenger received a chipped tooth.

The E-Z-GO and Cushman products in the recall have serial numbers from 2823208 to 2850425 and from 3000001 to 3003187. The affected Bad Boy Buggies vehicles have serial numbers from 8005089 to 8006013. The E-Z-GO products affected by the recall include the E-Z-GO TXT Fleet golf cars; E-Z-GO Freedom TXT, Shuttle 2+2 TXT and Valor personal golf cars all with one bench seat and one rear-facing seat; E-Z-GO Express with two bench seats and one rear-facing seat; and E-Z-GO Terrain with a cargo bed. Cushman is recalling its Shuttle vehicles, and Bad Boy Buggies is recalling its HD, LD, LTO, and LT Safari utility vehicles. E-Z-GO is advising its consumers to stop using the recalled vehicles and to contact them or an authorized dealer for a free repair. Known owners are already being contacted by E-Z-GO and the authorized dealers.

E-Z-GO can be contacted toll free at (855) 738-3711 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET Monday through Friday. People can visit the official E-Z-GO website at www.ezgo.com and learn more by clicking on the Product Recall Information button. Recall information can also be found at www.badboybuggies.com on the bottom of the home page.

E-Z-GO is not the only product issuing a recall today. The Twitter page for the U.S. Consumer Safety Product Commission also announced that Troy-Bilt leaf blowers and Remington electric leaf blowers have also been recalled due to the products cutting users. And the Excalibur Matrix Mega 405 crossbow is being recalled for firing without the trigger being pulled.

A related report from The Inquisitr stated that after GM’s initial recall of many vehicles having keys fall out of the ignition while the car is running, the auto company issued another recall in regards to the ignition-lock cylinder being defective.
