Warriors vs Clippers. They hit the court at 10:30 Eastern Standard Time – 7:30 for those watching on the West Coast – in tonight’s game two of the Clippers vs Warriors opening series of the NBA playoffs.

The Golden State Warriors won the first game, snatching home court advantage from the division-winning LA Clippers. Now, the Clippers look to split the opening home stand to avoid a situation in which they would need to win two games on the road against up and coming Golden State.

California basketball has been a bit bizarre this year. Who remembers the last time the Golden State Warriors and the Los Angeles Clippers were both playing in the NBA playoffs while the Los Angeles Lakers – who spent much of the season without superstar Kobe Bryant – are out on the back nine working on their short game.

Neither team is exactly known for its past playoff success. The Clippers – though up and coming, having won their division two years straight – have never won a championship. The franchise has been in the league – located in Buffalo and San Diego before relocating to L.A. in 1984 – since 1970. The Golden State Warriors have a history of basketball championships, but you have to dust off the history books to find it – the Warriors won the Basketball Association of America (BAA) championship in 1947 and two NBA championships – in 1956 and 1975.

Nobody on the court tonight was even born in 1975. Jermaine O’Neal, the Golden State Warriors’ oldest player, was born three years after the Clippers last championship.

According to an AP report, the Warriors’ David Lee, who scored 20 points in game one, had this to say going into tonight’s Clippers vs Warriors game:

“Me being aggressive on the offensive end helps us against Blake; it makes him work harder at both ends of the floor. My goal is to take away his easy baskets, his dunks and his fast-break buckets because that gets him ignited and that gets them ignited.”

Blake Griffin, who wasn’t a fan of game one’s officiating, had this to say after game one of the Clippers vs Warriors series:

“I really didn’t anticipate the game to be called like that both ways. The next game could be extremely physical. I just need to do a better job reading that situation. The first couple fouls you can kind of see how the referees are calling the game.”
