Oscar Mayer Recalls 96000 Pounds Of Hot Dogs

Oscar Mayer Hot Dog Recall

Oscar Mayer is recalling 96,000 pounds of hot dogs as a result of a possible mislabeling. According to ABC News, the US Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service said Sunday that Kraft’s “Oscar Mayer Classic Wiener” may instead be “Oscar Mayer Classic Cheese Dogs“.

CBS New York stated that the Oscar Mayer product labels are incorrect and do not reflect the proper ingredients. Kraft Foods was reportedly notified on Friday by a consumer who discovered that their Oscar Mayer Classic Wiener was actually a Classic Cheese Dog. According to ABC News, the company notified the USDA the following day of the mix up.

Kraft and Oscar Mayer have chosen to recall the meat because of the improper labeling and because the pasteurized cheese in the cheese dogs is made with milk, a known allergen, which is not declared on the label. As of Sunday, the Food Safety and Inspection Service said it has not received any reports of adverse reactions due to the labeling mix up.

Kraft Foods Group Inc. representative, Joyce Hodel, said in an email that the Oscar Mayer hot dogs were made in a plant in Columbia, Missouri. According to CBS New York, the products that are being recalled were made in early March and have the number “Est. 537H” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The recall reportedly applies to the following products:

  • 6-ounce individual consumer packages of “Classic Wieners Made with Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added,” with a “USE BY 16 Jun 2014” date and product code “044700000632.”
  • Cases of 16-ounce packages that were distributed to retailers of “Classic Cheese Dogs Made with Turkey & Chicken, Pork Added, and Pasteurized Cheese Product,” with “USE BY 16 Jun 2014″ date and case code :00447000005300.”
