‘Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes’ Star Judy Greer Talks About Her Ape-Themed Wedding

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes star Judy Greer is so obsessed with the franchise that she actually used the films as the theme for her wedding.

Although Greer previously spilled the beans about her Planet of the Apes wedding last year, the topic came up once again during her recent chat with Conan O’Brien. For those who aren’t keeping track of her personal life, the actress tied the knot with television producer Dean Johnsen back in 2011.

UPI reports that Greer gave guests at her wedding several chances to catch director Rupert Wyatt’s acclaimed 2011 reboot Rise of the Planet of the Apes by playing the flick on a screen. She showed the original flick starring Charlton Heston as well.

“During the cocktail hour, we had the TV screens in the bar [with] the movies playing,” she told O’Brien. “We had ‘Rise’ playing on one screen and then the original, obviously, ‘Planet of the Apes’ playing on the bigger screen,” the actress explained.

If you need even more information about Greer’s Planet of the Apes wedding, then you’re in luck. The Arrested Development alum discussed the event during an interview back in 2013.

She explained:

“We had a chimp husband-and-wife cake topper at our wedding. At the cocktail hour, we played ‘Planet of the Apes’ and ‘Rise of the Planet of the Apes’ on two separate televisions in the bar area. And on the wedding gift I bought him, a vintage Rolex, I had it engraved, ‘Ape shall not kill ape.’ I was then told that, technically, it’s ‘Ape shall never kill ape,’ but there wasn’t enough space for engraving purposes.”

Since she’s obviously a big fan of the Planet of the Apes franchise, the actress was understandably excited to land a role in the sequel. Judy told Empire Online that she learned everything she needed to know about portraying an ape from the flick’s movement coach.

“Andy Serkis is the master, but Terry Notary is the godfather, so he taught me everything I know. I got there late in the process, so I learned a lot on set from my amazing fellow apes. They were helping me out — when we were waiting around for set-ups, I’d be, ‘Can we practice quad walking? Can I get my half-crutches? Is this good?’ ‘No, keep your butt down!'” she told the publication last year.

Director Matt Reeves Dawn of the Planet of the Apes arrives in theaters across the US on July 11. Do you like the films enough to have your own Planet of the Apes wedding?
