‘Amazing Spider-Man 2’ Teases ‘X-Men’ Crossover In Post-Credits Scene

A potential X-Men/Spider-Man crossover film is teased at the end of The Amazing Spider-Man 2,according to early spoilers that have emerged.

Sony’s hugely anticipated sequel, which sees Andrew Garfield reprise his role as Peter Parker, contains a mid-credits sequence that features 20th Century Fox’s X-Men.

It’s believed that it revolves around Mystique, who is played by Jennifer Lawrence in the franchise, battling Josh Helman’s William Stryker alongside several other mutants, which includes Toad and Havok, who are played by Evan Jonigkeit and Lucas Till respectively.

Of course this revelation has lead many to speculate that the Spider-Man and X-Men movie series might be about to crossover in the very near future. However, others have simply declared that it is just a marketing ploy from Fox for their upcoming blockbuster, X-Men: Days Of Future Past.

Yahoo Movies.com believes that the marketing ploy came about because the film’s director, Marc Webb, was actually under contract with Fox when he signed to Sony to make the comic-book reboot. Webb previously made (500) Days of Summer with the studio, and Fox declared that a stipulation to his move was that Sony agreed to free promotional material for the new X-Men film.

It wasn’t known if the clip would only appear in UK cinemas, as this is where it was discovered, but Yahoo Movies US have since learnt that it will also appear in the US version too.

Sony’s statement read:

“Yes, there is an X-Men coda during the closing credits of The Amazing Spider-Man 2. As you know, moviegoers have come to expect a coda on many of their Marvel films, and they’re often disappointed when there isn’t one.

We saw this as a win for fans and audiences everywhere as it’s the next Marvel movie out of the gate. The entire credit sequence is a coda of sorts, opening with a virtual schematic created to tease comic book fans regarding what¹s ahead for them in the Spider-Man universe.”

It’s believed that the X-Men franchise will actually cross-over into the upcoming Fantastic Four reboot, which is written and directed by Chronicle’s Josh Trank, and will see Miles Teller, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell and Michael B. Jordan star as the hugely popular foursome.

Meanwhile, Sony are also set to expand Spider-Man’s cinematic universe exponentially in the very near future too. Not only have The Amazing Spider-Man 3 & 4 been confirmed, but plans are already afoot for Sinister Six and Venom movies too, which will focus on the infamous comic-book villains.
