Jennifer Lawrence: ‘East Of Eden’ Movie Will Cast Her As Cathy Ames For Two Movies

Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence’s East Of Eden movie role as the Hunger Games actress cast as character Cathy Ames, but now they’ve revealed that the plot from the book may be split up into two movies.

In a related report by The Inquisitr, rumors suggest Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique character may also be getting her own X-Men spinoff movie. Producer Lauren Shuler Donner admits that is the case, although apparently not everyone believed such spinoff movies could stand up on their own like Wolverine:

“There was a regime [at the studio] that didn’t see the worth in [spin-offs], and the current people who run Fox understand, embrace it, and we’re going to do right by it. I’d like to do Gambit. I’d like to do Deadpool. We’ll see. There’s a lot of really great characters.”

From mutant to brides maid to hunted warrior in a dystopian revolution, Lawrence has taken on many roles. But East Of Eden would be quite different because of the character she plays. The story starts as such:

“In the Salinas Valley, in and around World War I, Cal Trask feels he must compete against overwhelming odds with his brother Aron for the love of their farmer father Adam.”

Writer-director Gary Ross wants Lawrence to play Cathy Ames, the cruel mother of the boys and estranged wife of the farmer. The films will tell their stories leading to the rivalry between the sons. Ross also explained how Lawrence came to land the role:

“My kids had actually read it as their summer reading at high school. And I read it along with them, because I’d never read the book, I’d only seen the movie. And I loved the novel. Then I gave it to Justine Ciarrocchi, who is Jennifer’s best friend [and producing partner]. Justine read it and thought, ‘Oh my God, this is the greatest novel’ — Justine is wildly into literature and is very, very literate and is a good friend of my kids as well as mine. Then she gave it to Jennifer and Jennifer ‘This is incredible. I love this novel. I’d love to play Cathy Ames.’ So then I called Brian Grazer, who had been a producer on various incarnations of East of Eden, and said, ‘I would love to do this and I think Jennifer would love to play Cathy Ames.’ The rights had just become available again and we set it up at Universal.”

The director also recently revealed that the East Of Eden movie will probably be split into two parts:

“It may be two films. We may break it in half, into one generation and the next. And that’s what we’re talking about now.”

Of course, all of this is up in the air since Jennifer Lawrence is pretty busy with her current projects. They don’t even have a start date for filming.
