Baseball fans as can watch the New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox game live online as the longtime rivals face off in a Sunday Night Baseball matchup.
The game will see the likely return of Derek Jeter, who was out of the lineup on Saturday for a bit of rest, which will help the Yankees as they go for the win in the four-game set against Boston. Though the Yankees struggled against the eventual World Series Champion Red Sox last year, this year they’re off to a much better start, winning two of the first three meetings so far.
The first pitch is set for 8 pm from Yankee Stadium in the Bronx.
Fans who watch the New York Yankees vs. Boston Red Sox game live online will see if Yankees slugger Brian McCann can continue his early season turnaround. After hitting.162 in the first ten games with his new team, McCann hit two home runs in Saturday’s win.
“He’s hit the ball better than his numbers indicated,” manager Joe Girardi said. “I was not really concerned about it. I know he’s going to hit.”
The return of Jeter will also help with some offense, and Girardi said he isn’t just trying to showcase Jeter to fans this season.
“I have to manage him with the focus of winning games and keeping him healthy, not it being a farewell tour,” Girardi told the team’s official website. “It’s not the last week of the season and these games are obviously important to us — today, tomorrow, the next month. I have to manage that.”
Though Boston has some early season offensive struggles, the team still has some firepower as well. Ageless slugger David Ortiz has now reached base in 25 straight meetings with the Yankees.
“We’re doing what we can. Trying different things as far as the lineup goes, trying different combinations to get a little bit of a jump start. It’s required our starters to come out of the bullpen ready to roll from the first inning on,” said Red Sox manager John Farrell.
