2015 Corvette Convertible: Is This Your Dream Car? [Watch]

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 convertible is THE dream car for Corvette aficinados everywhere.

General Motors Co. will showcase the new Corvette Z06 convertible at the New York International Auto Show next week. This drop-top version has a new LT4 6.2-liter supercharged V-8 engine giving at least 625 horsepower and 635 foot-pounds of torque. It is the most powerful Chevrolet convertible that G.M. has ever built.

Mark Reuss, head of GM’s global product development, said in a statement:

“The Z06 Convertible is a world-class supercar in every sense. Only a handful of convertibles in the world bring more than 600 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque. Even fewer can match the advanced technologies, aerodynamic design, and visceral driving experience of the Z06 Convertible.”

This latest model is the successor to the first Corvette which carried the Z06 designation back in 2001. In that year 5,773 vehicles were manufactured in five colors — and the best seller was black!

Demand for the convertible version of the Corvette was never really so strong; indeed in 1963, Chevrolet delivered exactly one drop-top!

However, G.M. say that technological advances have enabled it to build a modern Z06 convertible. The car’s aluminum chassis was designed from the beginning of the concept to be a convertible. It’s 20 percent stiffer than the previous generation of Z06 coupes, so no additional structural reinforcement is required.

The 2015 Corvette is offered with a choice of seven-speed manual box, or an eight-speed automatic transmission, and G.M.’s magnetically controlled active suspension system.

Chevy launched a coupe version of the 2015 Corvette Z06 in January at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It could be the coupe version will be available late this year in limited quantities. But the main production is geared towards 2015

Availability and pricing will be announced later.
