‘Divergent’ Finale, ‘Allegiant’, To Be Split Into Two Parts, No Surprise There

The Divergent finale, Allegiant will be split into two parts, transforming the trilogy into a tetralogy (four parts), following similar practices by other major blockbusters.

Even though critics have mixed reactions when it comes to Divergent, the fantasy film has been met with positive reviews from movie goers, making it one of the first blockbusters of 2014 and propelling to relative newcomers — Theo James and Shailene Woodley — into the spotlight.

The news that the Divergent finale would become two films, comes as no surprise and was expected, as it follows other big blockbuster trilogies of the past, which have prolonged the audience’s attention by dividing the last chapter of the saga in two movies.

Such films include Harry Potter, Twilight, The Hobbit and of course The Hunger Games, to which many are comparing Divergent to.

Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate made the expected announcement on Friday, following the excellent results Divergent has seen in North America, with the US bringing in over $116 million since opening on March 21.

The second installment of the Veronica Roth adaptation Insurgent is in pre-production and filming is due to begin in the next few days.

Taking the helm from director Neil Burger, will be Robert Schwentke, who has been tapped to film the next chapters of the popular story.

This is welcome news for fans of Theo James and Shailene Woodley, who have charmed audiences with their portrayals as Four and Tris, respectively.

Divergent follows the story of Four and Tris as they navigate a dangerous world divided by factions in a chaotic futuristic Chicago:

DIVERGENT is a thrilling action-adventure film set in a world where
people are divided into distinct factions based on human virtues. Tris Prior (Shailene Woodley) is warned she is Divergent and will never fit into any one group. When she discovers a conspiracy by a faction leader (Kate Winslet)to destroy all Divergents, Tris must learn to trust in the mysterious Four (Theo James) and together they must find out what makes being Divergent so dangerous before it’s too late.”

Allegiant, the Divergent finale Parts 1 (March 18, 2016) and Part 2 (March 24, 2017), sees Four and Tris in a world which they don’t recognize anymore and will reveal the truth about their past and future.
