Marvel makes headlines today as they officially become the most successful movie franchise of all time. The release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier has put marvel over the edge and its only been out for a week. The domestic gross of all nine films of the Marvel cinematic universe adds up to $2,463,300,000 and counting. That beats out other film franchises such as the eight Harry Potter films, seven Star Wars films and all 24 James Bond movies. Marvel’s Cinematic universe is officially the highest grossing franchise in American History.
The next Marvel movie that will be released is Guardians of The Galaxy, which is new to the Marvel Cinematic universe and there is no doubt that it will be just as successful because its fresh to their universe. Soon after that Marvel will release Avengers 2: Age of Ultron which is set to be released in May of next year, and after that Ant-Man will be released in July. The release of these movies will widen the gap of between franchises such as Star Wars and James Bond, which are both set to release new movies towards the end of 2015.
The best part is that Marvel is just getting started, it was announced a while back that Kevin Feige has movie plans all the way up to the year 2028. That is an insane amount of movies for a franchise, and no doubt any other movie franchise will come close to. Disney really made a smart move by purchasing Marvel for $4 billion and it seems they are definitely getting their money’s worth.
Movies hasn’t been the only market they have been successful with. Marvel is still continuing to strive with their new generation of comics, Marvel NOW! In addition to that Marvel is slowly expanding to television. The Marvel TV shows currently on air is Marvel: Agents of Shield which is live action and their animated shows: Hulk Agents of Smash, Avengers Assemble, and The Ultimate Spider-Man. Marvel is also expanding into Netflix as well by creating new Netflix series of popular Marvel characters such as: Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Iron Fist. Marvel is definitely making big moves.
Right now Marvel is the top dog in the movie franchise business and they can only go up from here, and I’m sure we can’t wait to see whats next for the future of Marvel’s Franchise.
