Kanye West has some bad news for his fans living in Australia.
Although the rapper was originally slated to bring his Yeezus tour to the continent later this year, West ultimately decided against performing in the region. Instead, Kanye wants to focus all of his strengths on a brand new batch of songs.
According to Time, news of the postponement arrived courtesy of an official notice on the official Roc Nation website. Instead of inventing an elaborate ruse, Kanye West essentially said he doesn’t have time to tour Australia at the moment since he’s determined to put the finishing touches on his record.
Roc Nation said in the statement:
“Due to unexpected timing requirements to finish his highly anticipated new studio album, scheduled for a 2014 release, Kanye West regretfully announces the postponement of his upcoming tour dates in Australia. The tour dates originally scheduled from May 2 to May 11, 2014 will now be played from September 5 to September 15, 2014. All tickets for the initially scheduled shows will be honored for the new dates.”
While a lot of people are focused on the good news — fans are getting a new Kanye West album before the year is up — fans in Australia are understandably bummed that the rapper decided to postpone the upcoming shows.
What should Kanye West fanatics expect from the new album? The rapper said last year that the new collection will only feature eight songs, which means the guy is definitely focusing on quality over quantity.
“It’s just reducing down the amount of information that you need. People say a design is the point where you can’t take anything else away. Yeezus was very, very designed. I took a departure from radio and popular music in order to get this seat here. If I hadn’t made Yeezus, I wouldn’t be sitting here with this cool font at Basel right here,” West explained.
At the time, Kanye hadn’t settled on a name for the record. He told Power 99, “I always write down philosophies all the time, so I’ll just have some thoughts and every time I think of it I write, and I’m just collecting beats, I’m just constantly working. I’d like to put out more product, I’d like have another album out by next summer.”
Since Kanye West is tying the knot with Kim Kardashian this May, chances are the new record will arrive sometimes after the event. What do you think about the rapper canceling his tour in Australia to focus on the new songs?
