Vanessa Hudgens Gets All Intellectual, Quotes Longfellow After Filming Zombie Flick

Vanessa Hudgens, the 25-year-old star of the High School Musical series, never went to high school herself, but she at least learned at least a little of what she would have picked up in English class. Earlier this week, she posted a quote from 19th-Century American poet Henry Wadsworth Longfellow on her Tumblr page.

Of course, Vanessa — who was home-schooled by her parents — could have simply found the quote on the internet. But in any event, it was appropriate for Vanessa Hudgens who in addition to starring in High School Musical, is also a recording artist herself and comes from a musical family.

“Music is the universal language of mankind.” That’s the Longfellow quote that appeared on the Vanessa Hudgens Tumblr page, demonstrating that the Spring Breakers star has an intellectual side. The complete quote from Longfellow reads, “Music is the universal language of mankind — poetry their universal pastime and delight.”

Apparently Vanessa Hudgens is not as enamored of poetry and she is of music.

Longfellow, a native of Massachusetts, was the best-known and most commercially successful American poet of the 19th century. Before passing away at age 75 in 1882, his works were published in numerous languages and he was a favorite of President Abraham Lincoln, and was admired by Great Expectations author Charles Dickens.

Vanessa Hudgens posted the Longfellow quote not long after she finished filming a zombie comedy flick titled Kitchen Sink, co-starring with another Massachusetts native, comedian Denis Leary.

“It was the first comedy I’ve ever done,” said Hudgens in a recent interview. “I had an amazing time.”

So what is Kitchen Sink, and is it the sort of thing that Longfellow would have enjoyed? Well…

“It’s set in high school in a time when zombies, vampires, and humans all live together as harmoniously as they can, and I play another completely different character. She is the token hot girl, but also the village stoner,” Vanessa explained. “She goes through a little bit of a transformation herself, but I love it. I had the most amazing time on set. Everyday we would all say to each other, ‘I can’t wait till this is done so we can actually watch it and enjoy it.’ Because in it, we were cracking up.”

Kitchen Sink is scheduled for release January 9, 2015. In addition to Vanessa Hudgens and Denis Leary, the zombie comedy also stars Bob Odenkirk of Breaking Bad and comedian Patton Oswalt.
