Kendrick Lamar Teams Up With Alicia Keys and Pharrell For “Spiderman 2”

A superstar combination of Kendrick Lamar, Alicia Keys, Pharrell Williams, and Hans Zimmer have joined forces to create the official new theme song for Spiderman 2. The film hits theaters May 2nd and is the follow up to the immensely popular Spiderman reboot starring Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone.

Of the powerful collaboration with Kendrick, Pharrell says, “When I was making the song, I knew Alicia and Kendrick had to be on it. They take the song to a whole new level.” Willams produced the song with Hans Zimmer, who created the film’s memorable score and helped Pharrell to capture that again with the new single. “Hans created an iconic theme and it was exciting to collaborate with him again on this song,” Williams’ said of Zimmer.

Hans Zimmer didn’t create the score alone; his team, which he calls the “Magnificent Six,” helped him create the magic. The Magnificent Six include Pharell, Mike Einzinger from Incubus, Johnny Marr, and Junkie XL, among others. With all this powerhouse talent, including Alicia and Kendrick Lamar, magic was sure to be made. “For the overall score, I’m so amazed by what Hans Zimmer and the Magnificent Six were able to achieve,” says Spiderman 2 director Marc Webb. “Every director wants his movie to have a unique sound, but this is beyond unique. It’s completely unlike any movie score that’s come before.”

And about the Kendrick Lamar/Alicia/Pharrell/combo? Marc says it’s the perfect fit: “We were looking for just the right song to close out the film, a song that would be upbeat and exciting, but also contain a note of foreboding,” film director Marc Webb of the track. Adds Keys: “‘It’s On Again’ captures the experience, the story, and the meaning behind the film, which is that we all have the potential to be extraordinary,” Keys said in a statement. “There’s a little bit of a superhero in all of us.”
