When the Fort Hood shooter, Ivan Lopez, went on his killing spree on Wednesday afternoon, his wife had been at the neighbor’s house with the couple’s young child and became hysterical when the news identified her husband as the gunman.
Xanderia Morris, who lives next door to the family that just moved to the area in February, said that the unidentified wife and mother was beside herself, when local news stations began broadcasting that Lopez was indeed the Fort Hood shooter.
According to Fort Hood’s commander, Lieutenent General Mark Milley, the shooter had transferred from another base to seek treatment for possible mental problems and was in the process of being evaluated for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), when he snapped, killing three innocent victims and wounding 16 others before fatally wounding himself.
Not knowing that Lopez was the Fort Hood shooter, his wife was concerned that he may become a victim when news of the attack first became public on Tuesday afternoon:
“She was worried and she was crying” Morris told CNN via the New York Daily News. “I tried to console her and comfort her, let her know everything was okay.”
Morris said they had “no clue”, that Ivan Lopez was actually the one creating havoc at Fort Hood and when the news identified him as the suspect, the wife became “hysterical”, the woman recalled.
Authorities soon descended on the apartment building and took the woman into custody for questioning. She has cooperated with investigators, CNN says.

The Iraq War veteran, 34, served a four-month tour of duty in 2011, according to comments by Milley.
“Obviously, we are digging deep into his background, any criminal or psychiatric history, his experiences in combat. All of the things you would expect us to do are being done right now.”
Milley added the Fort Hood shooter “was not wounded, according to our records.” However, Lopez reported suffering a traumatic brain injury while deployed, the Lieutenant General said.
According to details about his medical history, the Fort Hood shooter suffered from depression, anxiety, and other psychiatric conditions, and was receiving treatment and medication, but had not been diagnosed with PTSD, which is a lengthy process. No motive has been disclosed for the deadly rampage.
