Emily VanCamp Is No Emily Thorne

Emily VanCamp, star of the hit TV show Revenge, now in its third season, plays the role of Emily Thorne, a calculating woman whose top priority is to bring, quite literally, revenge upon the people who framed and ultimately murdered her father. She will stop at nothing to see that those responsible are adequately punished for their misdeeds.

VanCamp says her television persona is the complete opposite of her true personality, however. “I’m nothing like her and constantly pushing those emotions to a place that is so uncomfortable leaves me with a general sense of exhaustion all the time.”

Apparently the same is true for Emily’s boyfriend, co-star Josh Bowman, who plays her love interest, Daniel, on the show. “It’s just really funny in the moments when we’re playing these absolutely absurd things. I call him ‘wife-beater Daniel,'” VanCamp quips. “But we’re actors. None of that lives in any of us. Thank God!”

Emily VanCamp says she and Josh make things work by keeping their personal and professional lives separate. She’s not too forthcoming about her relationship, but does say this about him: “I have a wonderful love in my life.”

Coming from a close family, Emily admits that it’s difficult for them to watch her alter-ego on Revenge. “It’s hard for my family to watch-it’s also hard for them to see me in that light.”

Emily VanCamp goes on to say that the role can be a difficult one to leave on the set at the end of the day, but she’s getting better at it. “Now that I’m in my third year of playing her it has become a little bit more difficult, less because of bringing the crazy home and more because of the exhaustion of having to emote those feelings,” VanCamp remarks. “But that’s the sacrifice you make to create an awesome TV show so I shouldn’t complain.”

Recently, VanCamp has expanded her acting career. Emily appears in the new Marvel action film, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, as Agent 13, who is also Sharon Carter. VanCamp believes that Agent 13 will be seen again in future Marvel films. “They’re just planting the seeds for this character. Marvel likes to sprinkle little bits for the fans. Anyone who is a ‘Captain America’ fan will know that Agent 13 is Sharon Carter. The fact that Cap doesn’t know that yet is very interesting, and a fun little thing for them to play with,” Emily VanCamp explained.

Stay tuned to see Emily VanCamp on television and the big screen. Captain America: The Winter Soldier is slated to hit theaters at the end of this week. Revenge airs on Sunday nights on ABC.
