Rapper Benzino Listed In Good Condition After Being Shot At Mother's Funeral

Rapper Benzino was shot Saturday while in a procession for his mother’s funeral, but doctors early on Sunday said the rapper is in good condition and expected to recover.

Police said that Benzino’s nephew shot him as their two cars were side by side on Route 3 just outside of Boston. They later arrested Gai Scott and charged him with armed assault and intent to murder.

“There has been growing family tension between Raymond Scott and Gai Scott,” Plymouth County District Attorney Timothy J. Cruz said in a statement. “At some point when the cars were side by side, Gai Scott fired several shots into the red Dodge SUV being driven by Raymond Scott.”

Gai Scott is scheduled to be arraigned on Monday in Plymouth District Court.

Witnesses described a bloody scene after rapper Benzino was shot.

“I said to one of the guys, ‘There’s blood on the hearse,’ ” said Father William Williams, who was presiding over the funeral.

After rapper Benzino was shot, a representative issued a statement saying that he was recovering and asking fans for support.

“[Benzino] was shot in the shoulder while attending his mom’s funeral. By his side is his Dad, long time business partner Dave Mays, friend Stevie J and his fiance Althea Heart. At this time we ask that you keep Benzino in your prayers as we are hoping for a speedy recovery.”

Fans were able to keep up with Benzino’s recovery through social media. Stevie J., Benzino’s castmate on Love & Hip Hop Atlanta, posted pictures of a visit to the hospital.

Shortly after Rapper Benzino was shot he had been listed in critical condition, though later in the day Saturday doctors updated his condition to stable. There is still no word of when he could be released from the hospital.
