Selena Gomez Triumphs As Favorite Female Singer At Kids’ Choice Awards 2014
Selena Gomez won out Favorite Female Singer at Saturday’s 27th annual Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards, and saw the 21-year-old beat out category rivals Taylor Swift, Katy Perry and Lady Gaga.
Hosted by Wahlberg and aired live from USC Galen Center in Los Angeles, the Nickelodeon event saw One Direction, Robert Downey Jr., Ariana Grande, Kevin Hart, Jennifer Lawrence and Justin Timberlake among others take the orange blimp honors – although not all showed to accept.
On the night Gomez wore a patterned kimono top and yellow trim shorts teamed with waved hair and subtle make-up for a fresh look.
The Latina starlet delighted the screaming youngsters in the audience as she accepted for Favorite Female Singer, saying:
“You guys have been the most loyal, dedicated people in my life because you continuously every year bless me with the opportunity to do what I love.”
Selena added, “So thank you so much and this is for you.”
Looking around the Internet, it seems critics have declared this year’s Kids’ Choice Awards as one of its more entertaining.
The show opened with a full-on Todrick-Hall choreographed routine with acrobats, drill band, dancers and a Miley Cyrus Wrecking Ball parody. Wahlberg was slimed at the show’s close thanks to Hart and Wahlberg’s three children as the actor shouted:
“I can’t believe my own kids turned on me.”
In between the raucous fun, Downey Jr., offered the kids some wisdom based on his own colorful past as he accepted for Favorite Male Buttkicker.
“This is the highest honor yet bestowed on me — I’m grateful, humble, the whole deal,” he hammed.
Downey added, “You know I wasn’t always a buttkicker. In fact, life has kicked my proverbial butt countless times in many ways for many years until I decided one day to start kicking back. Now look at me!”
The Iron Man star managed to shoehorn in a plug for upcoming movie Avengers 2 before he counseled, “Remember when life is kicking your butt, never forget to kick it back right in the face.”
Gomez’s win should restore some va va voom to the actress-singer’s step after a mixed bag week.
On Wednesday the former Disney star received a rapturous reception at a We Day event in California to empower young people, but was served with a subpoeana the next day.
The legal papers compel Gomez to appear at an April 23 deposition for a paparazzo’s lawsuit against her on-off boyfried Justin Bieber.
Selena is required to testify on oath about an alleged May 2012 incident, in which paparazzo Jose Osmin Hernandez Duran claimed he was karate-kicked in the stomach by Bieber in a parking lot in the Canadian’s former Calabasas, California, neighborhood — allegedly while witnessed by the “Come & Get It” singer.
Gomez is also set to be served a second subpoena next week to appear in a deposition for another paparazzo-led lawsuit filed against her rumored beau.
This past week it was reported Selena has purchased a five-bedroom mansion in Calabasas for around $3 million, within minutes of the Kardashian clan in Hidden Hills.
