Mindy Kaling Reveals: ‘I Don’t Want To Be Skinny’

Mindy Kaling spoke candidly with Vogue Magazine’s April issue on everything from fashion to weight, but mainly about weight – her weight. She declared boldly, and quite surprisingly, at the outset of the interview: “I don’t want to be skinny.”

Unlike many celebrities of her genre, Kaling went on to qualify her bold statement, about not wanting to be skinny:

“There’s a whole list of things I would probably change about myself… [but] I never need to be skinny. I’m constantly in a state of self-improvement, but I don’t beat myself up about it.

A big deal has been made time and time again about Mindy Kaling’s figure and she addressed that: “It’s really tempting to not take chances. But I don’t want to be fearful [with fashion choices]. I don’t want my tombstone to say, ‘She hid her imperfections well on the red carpet.'”

While Marni and Miu Miu are some of Kaling’s favorite designers, she often opts for pieces from the likes of Roland Mouret and Antonio Berardi.

She spoke more about her ideal weight, saying: “When I’m at my thinnest, I tend to wear things that don’t show off my body. But when I’m bigger, I’ll go body-con, which comes from a place of ” This is my perimeter, in case you were wondering if I was actually much bigger.'”

Mindy Kaling’s show, The Mindy Project, is enjoying some success, and is currently on break in its second season, returning to screens on April 1.

It is refreshing to see a star like Mindy Kaling encouraging woman to be comfortable with their weight and who they are. With statements like the ones she made in Vogue, it’s hats off to her for offering a modicum of sanity to us all.
