Mindy Kaling: ‘Chris Messina Is The Hottest Thing In The World’

Mindy Kaling thinks her Mindy Project co-star Chris Messina is “the hottest thing in the world,” according to a recent appearance on Today. Kaling was on the morning show to promote her FOX sitcom, which is returning next week after a brief hiatus.

Fans were left with a bit of a cliffhanger the last time they watched The Mindy Project. In the last episode, Mindy was flying to New York to win back her ex-boyfriend when her co-worker Danny, played by Chris Messina, planted a massive kiss on Kaling’s lips that left fans buzzing. On her Today show appearance, Kaling assured those fans that when The Mindy Project returns the characters will be dealing with the ramifications:

“We pick up right after we left off. I think that these last eight episodes we don’t string anyone along. I’m too impatient. We keep hitting you, there’s so much comedy in the first two episodes. Bill Hader is back being super funny. There’s so much sex and lies and secrets.”

After describing the kiss with Messina as “the hottest thing in the world,” Mindy went on to admit that her characters onscreen lip locks are definitely one of the “perks” of running a sitcom. But don’t confuse Kaling’s onscreen character with her off screen persona either:

“I wish I was more like the character. She parties so hard. She’s kissed more men this season than men I’ve met in my entire life. She lives this fun dramatic life that I don’t have.”

Mindy’s real life meanwhile has been plenty busy during the hiatus. The Emmy nominated writer was recently profiled in the April 2014 issue of Vogue magazine dubbed “The Shape Issue” on the cover. When asked about her weight in the issue, Mindy proudly proclaims, “I don’t want to be too skinny.”

As reported by E! Online, Kaling goes into further detail about her weight and eating habits in the article:

“I’m always trying to lose 15 pounds. But I never need to be skinny. I don’t want to be skinny. I’m constantly in a state of self-improvement, but I don’t beat myself up over it.”

She continues to describe how her weight affects her fashion decisions as well:

“When I’m at my thinnest, I tend to wear things that don’t show off my body. But when I’m bigger, I’ll go body-con, which comes from a place of ‘This is my perimeter, in case you were wondering if I was actually much bigger.'”

The Mindy Project returns April 1st on FOX.
