Nicola Peltz is about to have a very good year.
The 19-year-old actress has already been tapped to become the face of a summer blockbuster franchise, and now will have a wider audience for her coming-of-age movie as well.
Peltz got a big win this week when it was announced that her movie Affluenza was picked up by FilmBuff. The movie will be released in theaters and VOD on July 11.
The movie is set in the summer of 2008 and follows aspiring photographer Fisher Mills (Ben Rosenfield) as he leaves a middle-class life in New York to move in with his aunt and uncle. He then becomes entangled with his cousin Kate (Nicola Peltz) and her group of entitled friends in a world of drugs and partying.
In acquiring the movie, FilmBuff noted the success of director Kevin Asch, who previously directed Holy Rollers.
“This is a film I felt compelled to make – the themes of money, family, and finding one’s place in society have never been more relevant. I’m excited for audiences to be entertained by this seminal group of actors who create a provocative and layered world. FilmBuff is a perfect partner,” Asch said.
Affluenza also gives Nicola Peltz wider exposure, something that could be a good lead-in to her next big role.
Last year the actress was picked to take over from Megan Fox as leading lady in the Transformers franchise. The role was considered quite a coup for the relative newcomer, who first made a name for herself in M. Night Shyamalan’s film The Last Airbender and also had a major role in the television series Bates Motel.
Peltz is already earning accolades for her work. At CinemaCon 2014, she and co-star Jack Reynor will be given Rising Star of 2014 awards.
“With their upcoming appearance in Transformers: Age of Extinction Nicola Peltz and Jack Reynor are sure to show Hollywood that they are forces to be reckoned with,” Mitch Neuhauser, managing director of CinemaCon, said in a statement. “CinemaCon could not be more thrilled to honor such great young talent with the ‘CinemaCon Rising Stars of 2014 Award.’ “
Nicola Peltz can be seen in Transformers: Age of Extinction, which is slated to open June 27.
