A middle school teacher in Texas is facing felony charges after allegedly performing oral sex on one of her 15-year-old students.
Corrie Anne Long, a 43-year-old math teacher at the Hopper Middle School, has been charged with sexual assault of a child under the age of 17, and having an improper relationship with a minor.
The suspicions of the authorities were aroused when another student at the school reported that he had seen his classmate spanking Long in the classroom at the end of 2013. In another instance the student said he saw Long sitting on the boy’s lap.
When interviewed by the relevant authorities, the boy said that he had known Long since he was in sixth grade and that she was currently his math teacher. He also admitted that Long had performed oral sex on him in November of last year when the two of them were alone in the classroom.
The Hopper Middle School, which is located in Houston, Texas, released a statement confirming that Long had been removed from her position as math teacher at the school as soon as the allegations about her conduct came to light.
The statement said: “The safety of our students is always our highest priority. The district took immediate action to remove the teacher once the allegations were made, and we will continue to cooperate fully with law enforcement in this matter.”
It remains to be seen what punishment will be handed down to Long for her involvement with a minor who was also one of her students. The case raises a lot of questions within the public school system regarding inappropriate and illegal sexually based relationships between teachers and their students.
Sadly, Corrie Long is not the first, nor the last middle school teacher to cross the line and enter into a sexual relationship with one of her students. It will be interesting to see how harsh her punishment will be and if it will act as a deterrent for further similar cases.
