International Happiness Day Just In Time For The First Day Of Spring

International Happiness Day is a day where we should all be happy and enjoy not only the life we have but the wonderful world around us.

Today marks more than just the first official day of spring, it’s also International Happiness Day. So what exactly is International Happiness Day? Just what it sounds like, a day to be happy!

According to the Huffington Post, on June 28, 2012, the United Nations General Assembly passed Assembly Resolution A/RES/66/281, which states the following:

“The General Assembly, conscious that the pursuit of happiness is a fundamental human goal, recognizing also the need for a more inclusive, equitable and balanced approach to economic growth that promotes sustainable development, poverty eradication, happiness and the well-being of all peoples, decides to proclaim March 20 the International Day of Happiness.”

With all the negative news throughout the world these days, many are finding it rather difficult to find reasons to be happy today. From the missing Malaysia Airliner to the crisis in the Ukraine, all the way down to the trivial fact that there is snow falling on the first day of Spring in some parts of the US, the fact that today is International Happiness Day will either go unnoticed or just be ignored by many.

In a message posted to the United Nations website, Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon states “Happiness may have different meanings for different people. But we can all agree that it means working to end conflict, poverty and other unfortunate conditions in which so many of our fellow human beings live.”

So what is being done to help end all these negatives today? Pharrell Williams is getting into the spirit of spreading cheer and happy feelings all around the world by launching a new website called 24hoursofhappiness. According to GMA Network, the website is the result of Williams and the United Nations Foundation teaming up together to raise funds for the latter’s humanitarian efforts the world over.

The site features different videos and snapshots of people all over the world being happy, and many of the videos go along to Pharrell Williams’ hit song “Happy”. New videos are added from around the world as new time zones are unlocked and the videos range from Star Wars to flappy bird.

Celebrities aren’t the only ones getting into the spirit of International Happiness Day, just check out what some other people are saying and or doing to celebrate International Happiness Day:
